What Features to Look for in a Smartphone

When you are considering buying a smartphone then one of the most important things to do before you buy one is to think about what features and facilities are going to be useful to you and those that aren’t really going to be of any benefit to you. • Camera. You are unlikely to find many smartphones without a good digital camera these days. What will differ is the quality of the camera. 5 to 8 megapixels is the range you will find that most smartphone cameras fall into. • 3G / Wi-Fi connectivity. This is a fairly advanced feature that you will find on the most current models. If you want Internet access on the move then this is a good way to get it. Busy business people who need access to their mails and documents will definitely be interested in this feature, while those of us who simply like to browse the Web wherever we are may see it as more of a nice luxury but not essential.

• GPS. A smartphone with GPS can do a lot more than just tell you where you are on a map. You can find your way to local stores and restaurants, find out where your friends are and even track down your phone if anything happens to it.

• Processor. This is bit more technical, but basically the quality of the processor determines how many things you can do at once on the machine, how fast it runs and it also goes a long way towards increasing or decreasing your battery life. If you aren’t too confident about working out which processor is best, then a quick online search before you go shopping will give you an idea of the best ones and the ones that might not suit your purposes.

• Screen size. Sometimes it can seem a little bit like nit picking when industry reviews make a big deal about a fraction of an inch in difference between the size of one smartphone screen and another. Having said that, you will definitely notice the difference, at least on some applications, between the big screened models and the ones with smaller displays. How important this is probably depends upon the type of software you intend to use.

• Memory. Buying an external memory card is a cheap and simple way to extend the storage space on a phone. This explains why this isn’t seen as the most essential element of smartphone by most purchasers.

• Input method. The simple fact here is that some people prefer a conventional keyboard and others prefer a touchscreen. Going to a local store to try out some models is the safest way to make sure that you buy the type that most suits you.
